Genevieve is a versatile multi-instrumentalist, based in South London, predominantly performing on bass and viola. She is known for her captivating performances and a seamless blend of technical proficiency and artistic sensitivity.
Biography
Breaking into the London music scene, Genevieve Namazzi has been on a journey to discover herself as a multi-instrumentalist, achieving successes in her bass and viola playing and has become known for her technical proficiency and sensitivity through her musicality.Genevieve's versatility as a musician has allowed her to perform in exciting venues such as the Royal Albert Hall, London Palladium, London Stadium (Soccer Aid 2022), Amsterdam Concertgebouw, KKL Lucerne (Lucerne Festival 2022), Berlin Konzerthaus (Young Euro Classical/
Medici TV), Royal Festival Hall, BBC Radio Solent, Pizza Express Live, O2 Guildhall Southampton, Concorde Jazz Club, Turner Sims, Fairfield Halls, and Foyles with various artists. Some notable collaborations include: Robbie Williams, Clean Bandit, Chineke! Orchestra, Gary Crosby, DON BROCO, Adam Betts, Kele Le Roc, Ni Maxine, Blue Lab Beats, Shri Sriram, Nu Civilisation Orchestra, London Mozart Players, Grand Union Orchestra and many others.Her musical education excelled during her time at Southampton University, where she achieved a first-class honours in Music BA studying viola and bass. Through her studies under the tutorage and guidance of Jasper Høiby, and Sophie Renshaw, she has been inspired and encouraged to extend her versatility as a jazz musician and is now focusing on the double bass.
Her endeavours have been supported through the help of Cherubim Music Trust, Dorothy Grinstead Memorial Fund, Help Musicians, Gary Crosby and Tomorrow's Warriors.In addition to her successful undergraduate degree, Southampton University has awarded her the 'Hazel Muras-Osborn Prize' and 'Thomas Seltz Prize' for her contributions to the Jazz and Pop Department and her compositional dissertation.Genevieve's current project, 'In Your Own Time', features her quintet of sax, guitar, bass, drums and keys. This culminating project is a unique biography describing how complexity meets simplicity and aims to encapsulate various themes such as: adversity, desire, and influences from her life. Pushing her creative boundaries through using graphic scores, field recordings and complex rhythms, her future as a composer and producer is exciting and promising.Her compositional influences include artists such as: Esperanza Spalding, Aaron Parks, Gretchen Parlato, Avishai Cohen, Soweto Kinch, Linda May Han Oh, Tigran Hamasyan, Mark Guiliana, Brad Mehldau, Vince Mendoza, Kenny Wheeler, Walter Smith III, Johnathan Blake, Horace Silver, Christian McBride, Chris Potter, and many others.Genevieve's enthusiasm for musical opportunity is evident. From playing in jazz orchestras, classical orchestras, jazz combos, chamber ensembles, pit bands, and rock bands, Genevieve is versatile and always ready to perform.As she continues to perform, teach and compose, she is looking forward to a bright future filled with opportunity, meaningful relationships and growth.
